WRAPPED: ASICS X ABOVE THE CLOUDS GT-2160™ LAUNCH EVENT

Last Thursday, 5th October Surry Hills locals, friends and family and Asics and Above The Clouds ascended to our Surry Hills flagship store to welcome and celebrate the launch of our third collaboration with Asics on the GT-2160™.

Our third collaboration with ASICS welcomed a natural progression from heritage sports styles reconsidered to technical performance wear pulled from the ASICS' early 2000s archives.

Informed by an artistic reimagining of Japanese architecture and product design, the in-store activation welcomed a sculptural installation at entry. Wrapped in what appeared to be mesh and sculptural timber joinery, the installation invited guests to discover a deconstructed and reconstructed GT-2160™. A cue for viewers to consider the fabrication of performance footwear from an inside-out approach. A concept not dissimilar to great architectural and engineering works like Roger & Piano’s Pompidou Centre or Kurokawa’s National Art Centre, Tokyo.

Mirror panelling on uneven plinths reflected sharp edges of timber bound in zip ties, soft contours of wrapped green mesh and behind them, ATC Staff, friends and family who received collaboration pairs early wore their Thursday night best, paired with coloured socks of choice. Drinks flowed at the courtesy of Doom Juice, Grifter, Capi and Heaps Normal.
