Featured: A Kind of Guise

Founded in Munich in 2009, A Kind of Guise has spent well over a decade treating travel as its starting point. Collections are shaped by a select country or culture, drawing on the local food, history, art, and landscape. Ghana, Colombia, Jordan, Iceland and Albania have all shaped a collection, each brought home in colour, print and texture.

Quality Over Quantity is the label's motto, and the idea is simple: pieces that become companions for life, contemporary but timeless, classic and functional. Production stays close to home, with specialist makers in Germany and family-run manufacturers in Northern Italy.

The same curiosity runs through the label's wider world. Since 2022, its non-profit Souvenir Shop has sold goods sourced from local markets, small companies and artisans met along the way, with profits donated to organisations in the countries that inspired them. Its Signature Projects bring in up-cycling, revived traditional techniques and collaborations with craftspeople, and a community event series, Pappagorgia, gathers people around food.

Every collection begins with a symbol. For the AW26 season, the brand found theirs in the shadow of the Pyrenees, a motif uncovered through research and carried through the whole of Sombra de la Sierra. Printed shirting leads the way, with the Derbin Shirt in Blue Coins, Black Swords and Moss Flower Meadow, alongside the Gusto shirt in Mahogany Moon. The Ainsa tee in Washed Indigo and Mudstone keeps things easy, while the Wewa Wide Trousers and Juno Shorts bring a relaxed finish.

A Kind of Guise is a label that rewards a closer look, and the details are best seen up close.
